Central Iowa Spring Wedding // Des Moines Wedding Photographer
Spring in Iowa can be unpredictable as a toddler. 2019 has been no exception! Even though Savannah & Harrison got married just about an hour outside of Des Moines, and halfway through May, I actually wore a sweater to their wedding. Crazy! Regardless, a little cloud cover had nothing on the bright ball of energy these two bring to the table. They’re going to take this world by storm and I just can’t wait to watch what they do together!
This day was perfect. The only unexpected curveball was the fact that we had strong winds that were a little intense at times! It didn’t seem to phase these two, they were up for anything I suggested and that, my friends, means a lot. I totally over-shot their portrait time and am not mad about it. There are more than enough photos to cover their walls, create a wedding album, and have a few left over for Instagram. ;)
This wedding took place in Sav’s home town of Creston, Iowa. It’s a small town full of charm. I so wish we’d had an extra hour to run around it! So much potential for portraits and so many stories I’m sure Savannah could tell.
Savannah and Harry…. I just have to thank you again for allowing me to be a part of such an important season of your life! From the moment I walked in to the church and was greeted by your sister and bridal party, I felt so welcomed and loved. You two are truly something special, and I am so excited for you as you embark on a brand new journey in your life!
First look time! First with dad (so many sweet tears) and then with Harry, while the families looked on and then prayed over the couple. Absolutely sweet and memorable.
OKAYYYY YOU TWO. Hop on that FIRE TRAIN!
Side note…how gorgeous is this sibling photo!? THIS, my friends, is why you should plan to take family photos outdoors if at all possible. So stunning—who wouldn’t want this hanging up at Grandma’s house!?
On to the ceremony—the real reason for the big day! It was absolutely packed out, with family and friends thrilled to celebrate the new union. The pastor who married them has known Savannah since birth. Safe to say, some tears were shed. There were also two musical pieces- the bride and groom’s sisters sang a piece, and then later on her parents sang a duet as well. Talk about high emotions!
I’m picking up some major Grace Kelly vibes from Savannah’s wedding veil! Also, unrelated, but Amelia Renee Photography is now requesting all brides to wear cathedral length veils. ;)
I think all my couples should do their big exit right after the ceremony! It’s plenty light out for good photos, all your guests are still around, and so is your photographer. ALL the winning! (Sporty getaway cars very much encouraged.)
We snuck away from the reception to catch the sunshine. After a rainy day, it was sure welcome! I love this time of the wedding. The stress of the day is over, all you have left is dancing and drinking with your family and friends (and cake, maybe!). For 10 or so minutes, you get to talk about the best parts of your wedding… soak up the fact that you’re married… and soak up the sounds of nature.
