What To Wear for Senior Photos
It can be hard to pick out what to wear on a normal day… how in the WORLD do you choose what to wear for senior photos!? You know, the pictures that your mom will print + grandma will post on her fridge. And let’s not forget, that one will be memorialized in your high school yearbook FOREVER. No big deal! ;)
Well, I hope that this post will serve as a guide for you in making your decisions. How many outfits you’ll choose will ultimately depend on your package with your photographer — usually anywhere from 2-4 outfits.
I suggest that you choose, at the minimum, a more formal outfit (perhaps a dress or skirt) and a more casual one …maybe jeans or shorts, or even something like Kaya’s track uniform!! It’s up to you, of course but diversity never hurts in photo sessions :)
2. Dress for the season!! If it’s fall, you’ll probably want layers, a sweater, etc. If we’re in the middle of summer, you’ll want to wear lighter materials.
3. Shoes!! You’ve heard that they make or break an outfit, and that’s NEVER been more true!! I always suggest brining a pair of shoes for each outfit. Mix it up with cute tennies, some heels, or a fun statement kick!!!
4. Let’s talk accessories!! Like shoes, these will really add some flavor and depth to your images. Bring along different jewelry for each outfit, even thinking about hair accessories, belts, scarves/vests, etc.
5. Hair and Makeup!! Definitely consider having a professional help you out if you’re not comfortable doing your own. A great makeup artist will help you look like yourself (aka natural) while bringing out your best features. I can help you connect with some local HMU artists if needed!! No matter what, ladies should always wear foundation, blush, and mascara for professional photos! It will make a difference :)
6. Consider your hobbies! The sports, music, or other activities you’re involved in right now will likely change in college- so this is a great way to capture you doing what you love & spend time participating in! Dance, sports, with your pets, or even something you hope to pursue in your future (wanna be a florist? bring along a flower crown or bouquet!).
What did I forget!? Let me know if you think there’s something else I should include! In the meantime, you can find a Pinterest board here with sample photos on outfits that I think photograph well! (Neutrals, denim, earth tones and more subtle prints —aka nothing too large!— are generally ideal.)
