Documentary photography is what captured my heart back in middle school. There was even a moment in time where I considered journalism school, so that I could use my photo skills in a more candid way! That never happened, but I still try to capture photos as naturally as I can when possible.

It was a sweet day in August when I got to stop by Clara and Eva’s apartment. I’d been over before a few times, and knew the space had so much rich aesthetics and history. Their lease was ending and they’d both be moving out shortly, so my time was limited to be able to document these two women, kitty Puddin’, and this vibrant Sherman Hill apartment. I let them choose what to wear, and suggested a few ideas of where to lounge and activities to do, but mainly we just hung out and chatted and laughed. It was such a sweet afternoon, and I’m ever so grateful they let me in to their lives to capture the ending of an era in downtown Des Moines.
