Photographing this engagement session with Emily and Joel was completely surreal. At the end of Emily’s freshman year, we ran out to central campus at Iowa State to take some magical spring photos. It’s long been one of my favorite “senior” sessions! Two years ago, Joel asked Emily out for a date. He borrowed a car & they had the best time hanging out (also took one of the most awkward “first date” photos in the history of first dates!). You’ll have the ask them for that story, though. ;) This spring, they got engaged after a weekend in her hometown of Cedar Rapids. In just a few months, Em and Joel will marry in her home church and celebrate with a host of family and friends at Historic Ushers Ferry in Cedar Rapids. I love wedding photography in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area— so I’m pretty excited! Fingers crossed for some light snow (but no blizzards, please!).
Outfit and location change! Joel has played frisbee golf for years, so we ventured over to the local frisbee golf park. It was pretty secluded, perfect for some romantic dancing photos! ;) The sun was just starting to set as we finished up in a field of golden, dried grass. You’d never guess that cars were driving past us during the final set of photos! Emily and Joel acted like nobody was watching. Total pros. They’re going to rock their wedding photos in Robins and Cedar Rapids in early January.
Two months from this weekend you’ll be MARRIED! I’m so excited to celebrate with you, take incredible photos of you in your wedding dress (Emily… and suit for Joel ;), and then set down my camera and dance to a bunch of amazing tunes. Enjoy the final season of engagement during the Christmas & New Year’s holidays!
