Cassie and I have been friends since childhood. We were never “best friends” but our lives overlapped a lot in elementary and high school years. She brought the party to any gathering, and never showed up quietly. ;) Wes entered her life in high school… and never left. Ha! They got engaged a few years later, and actually came to me in Ames for their engagement photos. It was cold and wintery, not unlike this day. It didn’t work out for me to do their wedding, sadly. And since they live in Cedar Rapids, and I in Des Moines, we haven’t crossed paths in person since then.
To my delight, Cassie messaged me about a month ago. She’d seen some of my recent newborn photos & was curious if I’d be interested in taking photos. After all, their second child (and first girl!) was due in February. Well… surprise surprise, I would be in their neighborhood to photograph Kristen & Kurt’s wedding at Usher’s Ferry and it’d be perfect timing for newborn photos. I WAS SO EXCITED! Plus, I’d get to finally meet their hilarious 2 year old little guy. :) And he stole the show, the moment I walked in their house…

I’ve learned a lot about newborns and photographing them these past few months. I let myself sleep in, and we got Aria to fall asleep pretty quickly after I got there! Below are just a few of my favorites of sweet little Aria.
