Summer and rooftops and photos with your best friend & fiance! What could be better?! (Maybe including ice cream… or kittens… but otherwise, I can’t think of a more perfect evening!) Keaton & Hannah tie the knot this month (eloping in Iceland!) and then we get to celebrate with their family + friends in Atlantic, Iowa in July!

Omaha Wedding Photographer
2022 was a much busier year of photographing weddings than I expected, but in the sweetest way. I had SO many wonderful couples to work with, and we saw snow, rain, and extreme heat. 9 of the 12 months held weddings, and each one was full of kind souls that made the long days and sometimes overnight travel worth it.
Capturing each stage of life is so unique, and newborn sessions are one of those that just really stand out as special!! I treasure the few photos I have from my early weeks of life, especially the ones with my parents holding me in the hospital. So it’s a joy to capture my friends lives as they transition into parenthood, and take photos that they’ll hopefully treasure for a lifetime :)

These two were the MOST fun— proof that self-proclaimed un-models can rock any sort of photo session with the right photographers! I set up this session as part of a mentoring connection with Melissa and it was a blast. Bri and Isaac stepped up last minute to model after previous plans fell through and it was just meant to be! Thanks for braving the chilly fall weather, you two! Hope it was as fun for you as it was for me! :)
Once you’ve picked a wedding venue and date, the next thing couples usually do is chose a wedding photographer! Often, a great question to ask your photographer is if they include an engagement session… read more to find out why!
After seeing a few local ‘togs share their FaceTime quarantine sessions, I decided to give it a shot! My best friend and her husband were my first test subjects and it was SO FUN. Leading up to the session, I felt more nerves than I have in months or years prior to a shoot. However, as soon as we got on the call, I was in the zone. This FaceTime photo shoot brought me more joy and focus than anything else has this past month! It felt good to be posing and editing images. Plus, I got to hang out with my friends and see their super cute house. :)
It doesn’t matter when their first kiss was— each time my couples were pronounced married at the alter, the next kiss they shared was first as husband & wife. Each one was sweet, and tender, and often full of smiles! It's such a joy to be somewhat of a "fly on the wall" during these intimate moments. Nothing like kissing in front of someone holding a camera to show how unabashedly in love you are. ;) It’s going to be a sweet thing to watch these love stories continue to grow & mature with time!
You may remember my recent post of Naomi and James’ one year anniversary photos. It was a unique photo session, because we did them in their apartment! Such a fun afternoon of coffee & records & documenting the space they’ve turned into a home, in a little suburb of Omaha.
oh, this october. perhaps the best of them all.
This wedding day was the unicorn of wedding day! A gorgeous first look, seriously overwhelming amount of bridal portraits, the sweetest ceremony at Kingsway Christian Church (where the couple WELDED together the final bits of a beautiful stained glass piece), an outdoor reception at Falconwood Park, homemade pie, the absolute best comfort food for dinner, and much laughter and dancing! Click on the post to see the whole amazing day!
This is probably one of my very favorite wedding days. Not because it was the most extravagant (it was wonderfully simple) or some new exotic location (Omaha is not all that new!). Rather, it will forever be a favorite day simply because Naomi is like a sister to me, and James & Naomi have a way about them where everyone feels like family!
Des Moines Engagement Photography:
Naomi + James
Naomi and James met in college at Northwestern in Orange City. Together, they make a kind and quirky pair! After graduation, these two packed up their dorm rooms and met me in Des Moines for their engagement session. We started out at Scenic Route Bakery, wandered around downtown, took a few photos in front of the Iowa State Capital, and even teased the rainclouds a bit with an umbrella! Naomi and James were so much fun—I don't think we stopped laughing and talking their entire session…so much so, that I drank two tumblers of water at dinner! (Check out Tacopocalypse for the best Asian-Mexican fusion I've ever had.)
Naomi and James will be moving to Omaha after they get married—and have dreams of loving on low-income families, youth in the community, and probably every person they run into. ;) I have no doubt they will do just that!
They get married in Omaha in September and I. Can't. Wait!!!
