Grief Needs Beauty //

Like many of you, this past week dampened any sense of motivation that I had. Rainy days and low energy from lack of people (I’m an extrovert, and already tired of working from home) coupled with some tension in my household and you get a very moody artist. ;) Thankfully, I have some wonderful encouraging friends, and we’ve seen sunshine and warm breezes here in Iowa this week. I’ve got windows open, summer tunes playing on my stereo, and drank a latte (a luxury these days!) from one of my favorite local Des Moines cafes.

One of my most cherished storytellers and creators, Kristen Morris, shared some of her inspiration in these emotionally draining days on Instagram. She created the most stunning wedding for her and her husband, Caleb, a few years back— full of color and vibrant, tangible joy. So, I’m sharing some of my favorite inspiration these days. As she has written before, “grief needs beauty” and I agree 1000%.

First up: home decor! I OBSESS over home decor, and currently love the trend of fun wallpapers! Maybe people will hate on us in 50 years, but what a fun way to add an accent wall & pop of color to your living space. Click through each image for their source!

This almost-oriental wallpaper with birds perching on flowering vines would make anyone feel like they live in a palace!

How about a provincial French style!? Can you see Belle from B&tB doing her laundry in a modern mudroom below!?

Not interested in wallpaper? How about some bright, modern paint on your interior walls?

You could hang a print of this lovely summery claude monet in your room or hall to bring the nature inside on a colder day.

Rifle Paper Co has fabric out that makes me desire to have the skill of a master seamstress. I could wear this pattern all day long in any style!!! heart eyes emoji

Garden vegetables display some of the sweetest colors. Don’t you ache for August!?

or perhaps you prefer a counter full of flowers from the garden or fields? (I can’t choose!)

I wouldn’t mind a window-seat in which to read a good book these days. Maybe I need to move to Italy!? (once quarantine is over, of course!) I think we’re moving in to the travel portion now… ready for some lovely scenes!?

How about some wearable art? Maybe a floral belt to keep the flowers with you all day long…

And I’m digging these sunset earrings by Brae!

A floral dress with plenty of skirt to twirl… what a spring dream.

I think I will continue to cultivate a Pinterest board with beauty and inspiration for life. What do you think? Is this something I should keep up and share here, or on Instagram!? Comment below with your thoughts!
